What's In A Name?

Those of you who know me well know that my full name is actually McKenzie Jordan Brummond. Some people seem a little confused when I explain that my professional name is Mac Jordan, so I thought in this week's blog post I would take a moment to explain.

Mac has been my nickname for as long as I can remember. It started out as a name used by my parents, particularly my dad, as well as my soccer and basketball coaches. In fourth and fifth grade, I had a few close guy friends who heard my dad call me "Macky" one day and decided that Mac was a cool nickname. As it turns out, the name stuck--my friends, my family, and often even my teachers have called me Mac ever since. Funny how a nickname can be so apt and be used so ubiquitously; these days I am equally likely to answer to Mac as McKenzie.

I have chosen to use my middle name for several reasons. First of all, I just like how Mac Jordan sounds. Second, it is kind of nice to have such a noticeable boundary between my professional life and my personal life. And last, but certainly not least, Jordan is my mom's maiden name. My grandma Jean Jordan passed away over a year ago, at the age of 101. She was always supportive of my music. I can still remember singing one of my first original songs for her when I was ten years old. When we had "Queen Jean" try Beats headphones for the first time, her immediate response was, "Oh, I need to go to town and get myself some of these!" Using the name Jordan, then, also serves as a small tribute to the Jordan matriarch who always made me smile and loved me so well.

I love capturing a good story. In fact, it is this love in particular that attracts me to music and songwriting. It seems only fitting that my name, Mac Jordan, should be a reflection of my stories too.
